Sara Fishman holds a PhD in metallurgy from the University of Connecticut (Institute of Materials Science) and a BA in chemistry from the University of California at Riverside. She is certified to teach K-12 general science, physics and chemistry. Sara Fishman’s professional writing and teaching experience includes the following:
• Over 25 years teaching general science, physics, chemistry and mathematics in public middle- and high-schools, yeshiva high-school and community college.
• Teacher, Higgins Armory Museum, Worcester, MA, developed lectures, worksheets and student activities exploring the history of metal-working and machinery as related to arms and armor.
• Author of over 100 short filmstrips teaching elementary science, history, and mathematics.
• Author of articles for the Gale Encyclopedia of Science, 1995 edition, on topics in chemistry, physics and materials science.
• Presented talks on the interface of Torah and science at the Association of Orthodox Jewish Scientists and local Jewish community events.
Dr. Fishman is married and lives with her husband, Rabbi Chaim Fishman, in Worcester, Massachusetts. She is active there with the Chabad community and has taught at Yeshiva Achei Tmimim of Worcester. She is a member of the National Science Teachers Association and the Association of Orthodox Jewish Scientists. Upon retiring from classroom teaching in 2007 she has been tutoring high school and college students in chemistry and physics, and writes about science and Jewish themes.
